The heavily guarded room houses the tooth and is accessible to visitors and those who want to see the tooth. But you can't view the tooth. It's stored in a golden casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa) and comprises a collection of six dagoba caskets with smaller and smaller sizes. The complex includes smaller shrines, temples, museums, and the renowned central temple.

Kandy Lake, also referred to as Kiri Muhuda or The Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake situated amid the hill town of Kandy, Sri Lanka, constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, next to the Temple of the Tooth. Through the years, the lake diminished in dimensions. It is now a protected lake, and fishing is prohibited. There are numerous legends and myths about the lake. One is that the tiny island in the middle was used by the helmsman of the King for bathing, and it was linked to his palace through a hidden tunnel.

There is an hour-long guided tour of the processing plant, which was first not fully operational until 1885 and is still stuffed with 19th-century construction.
